ECU – A Division of WFCU Credit Union Scripps Regional Spelling Bee
ECU is excited to announce our inaugural ECU Scripps Regional Spelling Bee for students, grades 1 to 8, in the Kitchener Waterloo Cambridge area.
All school champions from enrolled schools will move forward in the ECU Regional Spelling Bee on February 11, 2023, and the champion of our local competition will represent our region in the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee in May 2023 which will be held in Washington D.C..

Scholarships
ECU – A Division of WFCU Credit Union began with and maintains strong roots in the education sector. We understand the value of post-secondary education for students in any stage of life. Through our partnerships with University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and the Waterloo Region District School Board, as well as the Ontario Credit Union Foundation, we are proud to offer a variety of awards, scholarships and bursaries for those looking to attend post-secondary school in Ontario.
ECU – A Division of WFCU Credit Union can also provide you with a free student account, low rate education borrowing, and many other services to students in Ontario.

OCUF CU Succeed Youth Bursary
UWSA Scholarship and Bursary Program
Being part of the education sector in Waterloo Region, ECU – A Division of WFCU Credit Union is happy to partner with the University of Waterloo Staff Association (UWSA) to co-sponsor an annual award for undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Waterloo.
This year, ECU – A Division of WFCU Credit Union was happy to award $5,000 to UWSA to supplement these awards. UWSA President Lawrence Folland visited our Waterloo branch on July 8, 2020, for a socially distanced presentation of the funds.

WLUSA Scholarship and Bursary Program
ECU has also partnered with the Wilfrid Laurier Staff Association (WLUSA) to sponsor and support a scholarship program for full or part-time students at Wilfrid Laurier University. Involvement in Our Community
Credit unions have a long-standing reputation for supporting social and environmental organizations through staff volunteers and/or financial assistance, and awarding scholarships and bursaries to youth. ECU – A Division of WFCU Credit Union focuses upon programs related to education and our youth.
Cambridge Fire Fighters
Each December, ECU – A Division of WFCU Credit Union helps the Cambridge fire fighters in their collection of Toys for Tots; A campaign to raise money to purchase toys for the children of the Cambridge community. The Cambridge fire fighters have run the basket fund in an effort to make Christmas a little brighter for those in need of assistance.
Nutrition for Learning
With the help of our members, ECU – A Division of WFCU Credit Union is able to participate and donate to Nutrition for Learning. This past year, we have donated over $20,000 to Nutrition for Learning and their programs. To learn more about Nutrition for learning, click here.
Ontario Credit Union Charitable Foundation
The Ontario Credit Union Charitable Foundation is a Community Partnership Matching Program that supports requests to match funds for charities, focusing on poverty, educational or medical related causes. The Foundation funds the community building program by revenue from donations, sponsorships and support of fund raising events. Click here for more information.
